Test and Tune August 14, 2010

Postby whpony96 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 7:42 pm

At this months meeting I brought up a new event that can directly help each other and a perfect time for us to get to know each other better.

This event will entail the following:

1. A nice location where we can have enough room for our rigs in the club.
2. Access to shaded areas so the sun is not frying us wile we perform tasks on each rig.
3. A location where families and children can relax play and have fun while this event is taking place.
4. We will be working with each other on our rigs utilizing each others talents and man power.
5. We will be performing such tasks as minor repair welding (Shane does not have 220V available at his home), removal of unwanted mods on rigs grinding and cutoff wheels will be used. (torches? Joe A. will be bringing a plasma cutter), Changing of any fluids (Ex. Axles, Motor Oil, Transmission fluid, Bleeding brakes, Antifreeze, ect..) Replacing Rotors and Brake pads, Hooking up Rock Lights, mounting switches, adding or repairing auxiliary lights, adding or replacing switches, Cleaning and removing scratches from soft top windows (actually very easy if you know how), replacing burnt out bulbs, upgrading standard bulbs to HID's, Repainting odds and ends with rattle cans, Fixing your CB issues, Reattachment of fender flares, Removing decals or adding them, replacement of ball joints and tie rod ends, replacing spark plugs and plug wires, installing axle gussets and or axle sleeves.

6. Now the Limitations:
a. You can not just drop your rig off to be fixed and leave to come back at a later time to pick it up.
b. There will be no major jobs performed on anyone's rig. (Engine swaps or Engine rebuilds, tranny swaps or re-gearing, no major axle mods such as re-gearing or swapping of axles.)
c. Rewiring of entire rigs.
d. No raw fabrication of bumpers, rockrails or lightbars from scratch.
e. No extreme painting of any kind (We will not have the ability to perform showroom quality paint jobs.)
f. No glass repair or replacement will be performed. (But we might be able to contact a glass company that can cut us a sweet deal on "multiple rig discount" ?!?!)

Shane and Addy have graciously opened up their property and Barn for us to work in. (Only one request has been made by them and that's to please refrain from entering their home at all during the event.)

August 14, 2010
10am
1900 N McDermott Rd.
Kuna Id 83634

Shane has also informed me that his MATCO tool truck will be fully stocked. So if someone would happen to need a special tool to complete a task or a tool is broken at the event the tool can be purchase right on site. (No you can not just borrow them so please don't ask to.)

Some items that will need to be brought to the event:

>All the parts and hardware you want replaced or added on to your rig!
>Tarps
>Chairs
>Pop-up tents for shade. for people and some big enough for a rig to park under.
>Fans
>Extension Cords Power Strips
>Work Lights
>Shane stated he has plenty of cardboard for us to lay on and used to absorb fluids.
>Cat litter to pick up bad spills.
>Hand Cleaner
>Towels and Rags

Now with these plans laid out I would like to open this up for suggestions and ideas to make this a fun event for all. If you have some tools that most of us would not normally carry in our home garages and would be willing to bring to the event please post up!

Picture your 32oz nalgene bottle wearing a neoprene wetsuit with a pump type lid, connected to a single adjustable mister. (with a small security-type-badge clip to aim the mister where you want it) They actually work really well if you are going slow enough, or stopped.
I have two...

Hey all,

We are excited to have this event at our home. Just a couple of corrections and additions:

1) It is a MATCO TOOLS TRUCK. Not Snap-on. If I have a snap-on truck in my driveway you are at the wrong house.
We are in Kuna at 1900 N. McDermott Rd.
2) We will have our laundry room door unlocked where there is a bathroom available for all to use. As Scott said, we are asking to keep the house off limits to help keep clean-up down to a minimum.
3) If you are planning to do any oil/antifreeze/fluid changes, please bring some kind of container to haul the waste away with you.
4) Since our shop doubles as our barn, each person doing any cutting/grinding/etc. will be required to clean up after your project. We have cats and dogs roaming the property and want to make sure they are not getting hurt after the day is done. We will have it cleaned up prior to the workdate so flammable materials will not be present. I have plenty of brooms, but if someone could bring some kitty litter for spills that would be great. (Volunteers??) The floor is concrete and I am asking all oil/fluid draining or adding be done in there and not in the driveway.
5) We are not opposed to you bringing your own barley pop, etc. BYOB HOWEVER please be responsible at all times both while you are here and after you leave. Bail money is in short supply these days and we don't want anyone getting hurt. :crybaby:
6) If you would like to stay after the work is done (sometime around 5pm or 6pm) I would be happy to open our grill(s) for cooking some hamburgers/hotdogs/etc. and we have an area to hang out into the evening and hang out to socialize more. Also, please no 8 hour roasts for the bbq....
7) Last but not least, our pastures are NOT open to jeep traffic so please stay on the road/driveway and parking areas. I have the RTI ramp here and we can use it for any testing needed.

I do have a compressor, bench vise, bench grinder, 115v welder, 3 ton jack, 4 jack-stands, impact guns and water (hose) available at the shop. Bring whatever tools, food & water, and whatever else you think might be helpful and let's make this a great day! Hope to see you all here. :blob:

Shane

Allen, I would definitely take you up on seeing if we can get some 220v into the shop. It's something I've wanted to do for a while anyway.

I am committed to this date. Sign me up. Nathans fuel injection project will be at the top of my list. IS there a 240 outlet yet. IF not I can bring my cord and hook it up to the panel and bring my welder. Do we really need a 240 mig on with a bottle of inert gas. Let me know. Torch? Soldering gun. Wire connection kits and maybe some wire. Small/med hvac size torch that I can use well. Me and a six pack. With leaf spring questions. So bring some answers.

John, we may have to work a deal on that day. I'm going to trailer the Jeep over there, but I have two football practices that day. I won't be done until like 4:00 that afternoon. I'm not sure if there is going to be time to bring it over and if we can get it done. And it may have to be trailered because I put a hole in the radiator this weekend, so I need to get some time and then get some money to get it out and get it fixed. Too many things right now, but I sure would love to work on getting that injection on there on this day with lots of good help around. By the way, does anyone know a good place to take a radiator to get fixed?

Last Radiator I had repaired was at United Radiator shop in Caldwell, ID. The place might not be the prettiest, but the work was excellent. Also consider replacement.

After Yellow Pine, I had the ZJ radiator pulled and checked out. They wanted $75 minimum to repair it and could go quite a bit more.
I bought a new one from them for $121. The old radiator had 186,000 on it.

First if you radiator sprung a leak from internal corrosion then DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT HAVING THE HOLE REPAIRED.....why because the next new leak is right around the corner.

Second if the hole was caused by a branch then you might be OK having the hole fixed.

I bought a new radiator for my 96 Mustang from Radiator Barn Free Shipping and the products are Top Notch!

I saw Nathans radiator. It is a specialty built aluminum radiator and one of his electric fan mounts rubbed a hole. He scored a 45.00 repair. I think it is at get some getting brackets welded for the electric fans intead of pins through the fins. HA HA a ryme.
